Who is responsible for your data
Zen Editorial de Ciencia y Bienestar LLC, 845 Texas Avenue, Suite 3300 / 207, Houston, TX 77002, United States. Email: hello@zenbookspress.com. Phone: +1 (346) 576-5005. In this policy, "we" means the company and its imprint, Zen Books.
What data we collect
- When you send a manuscript: your name, email, country, the details of the book you give us and the file you upload.
- When you write to us: your email address and whatever you include in the message.
- When you pay: payments are handled by our payment provider. We receive confirmation of the payment, never your full card number.
- When you visit the website: our hosting provider records technical data such as your IP address and browser in its server logs, for security and to keep the site running.
What we use it for, and on what basis
- To read your manuscript, prepare the reading report and answer you. This is a step you ask us to take before any contract.
- To carry out the service agreement if you hire us.
- To keep the invoices and records that tax and accounting law requires.
- To protect the website against abuse, which is our legitimate interest.
We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising and we do not add you to any mailing list unless you ask to join one.
Your manuscript
We use your manuscript only to evaluate it and, if you hire us, to work on it. We do not publish it, share it or sell it. If a collaborator such as a designer or translator works on your book, they do so under a confidentiality commitment and only after you have signed the agreement.
Who else processes your data
We rely on a small number of providers who process data on our behalf and under their own security obligations:
- Hostinger, for web hosting and email.
- Google, for email (Gmail).
- Stripe, for card payments, once payments are enabled.
Some of these providers are based in the United States or store data there. Where the law requires it, transfers are covered by the safeguards those providers offer, such as the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
How long we keep it
If you send a manuscript and do not go ahead with us, we delete the file and the form data twelve months after our last contact. If you hire us, we keep your data for as long as the agreement lasts and afterwards for the period that tax and accounting law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or send it to you in a portable format, and you can object to its use. Write to hello@zenbookspress.com. We answer within one month. If you live in the European Union and think we have not respected your rights, you can complain to your data protection authority; in Spain this is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).
Security
We keep your data on providers with encrypted connections and access limited to the people who need it. No system is completely secure, and if something went wrong that affected you, we would tell you.
Age
Our services are offered to adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page with its date.
